REACH

Registration, Evaluation und Authorisation of Chemicals

REACH, the Regulation for Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals entered into force on 1st of June 2007.

REACH should ensure a high level of protection of human health and the environment as well as the free movement of substances, on their own, in preparations and in articles, while enhancing competitiveness and innovation.

REACH shall create Europe-wide standardised provisions in order to register new chemical substances and to assess existing chemicals.

REACH attributes specific obligations to the actors in the supply chain – Manufacturers – Importers – Downstream Users. Their obligations are clearly defined in view to scope and timeframe. Retail shall have the obligation to pass on, for instance, information by means of safety data sheets. Customers and users should be guaranteed optimum protection by these measures.

REACH stipulates the policy „No Data No Market“. This means that after the expiry of time limits non- registered and non-authorised chemicals shall not be produced and/or shall not be imported to the European Union any more.
